A unified BCBS239 risk data model for a major multinational banking group

Through the creation of a common business glossary, an enterprise data model and documented data lineage, Ortecha is helping an international banking group transform what was a fragmented collection of risk data and feeds into a consistent, coordinated unified risk data model supporting the BSBCS239 risk data aggregation and risk reporting (RDA&RR) regulation.

In the past, each of the different risk departments within the Group used different terminologies to describe risk data attributes. Ortecha has helped the bank create data models that manage data related to specific global functions, including retail credit risk, wholesale credit risk and insurance risk. The risk requirements for each of these models have then been brought together within a single enterprise data model, a common business glossary and well documented data lineage.

With every part of the business now speaking the same data language for critical data elements it is now much easier to produce consistent and accurate risk information for senior management, to inform their business decisions. It is also easier to create new risk models for other business areas, because many of the risk requirements for these areas may already form part of the unified model, as they are also requirements for other risk areas already feeding into the model.

With the unified risk data model in place, not only is the bank now much better able to understand its risks internally, but it is also much more able to ensure regulatory compliance to BCBS239 RDA&RR and to respond quickly and correctly to unexpected changes in regulatory requirements, or to ad hoc requests from regulators for information about its risk data and processes.
