Building better data cultures, together
A community to share ideas, swap advice and get real about what works (and what doesn’t) when it comes to building healthy data cultures that last.
Welcome to the Data Culture Club
Data Culture is still emerging as a discipline. It doesn’t feature much in best practice frameworks, and many companies don’t have dedicated teams to drive it forward.
That’s why we created the Data Culture Club: the only global community for the pioneers who are shaping their organisations’ attitude to data.
We believe the key to developing best practice is simple: sharing what we know. The Data Culture Club gives members an opportunity to explore new ideas, share insights, and support one another on what can be a challenging journey.
Our purpose
Founded in 2024, we’ve already grown to more than 100 members. They’re based all over the globe and work in a range of industries, which provides a great mix of perspectives.
As well as connecting members online, we hold events every few months for more focused discussions and networking. Our London roundtable events last year included fireside chats with guest speakers, lively roundtables between members and a friendly festive social.
We’re looking to broaden our programme this year to include online events and new formats. And we’d like to use the collective wisdom of the group to carry out research and generate best practice guidelines, to shape this discipline and inspire the next generation of Data Culture professionals.

The community
We are proud that more than 100 individuals have joined the DCC since it was founded in 2024.
Our members come from over the world – from Australia to the USA – and represent a range of industries, including the Financial Services, Telecoms, Retail, Sport, Charity and Public sectors.
All bring fresh perspectives on what it takes to make culture change stick.
We welcome anyone responsible for improving mindsets and behaviours around data in their organisation.
Dedicated role
Some organisations have dedicated Data Culture teams, or a specific role within a larger team:
- Head of Data Culture
- Data Culture Lead
- Data Culture Manager
Related role
Many of our members don’t have ‘Data Culture’ in their job title but cover similar responsibilities:
- Data Literacy Lead
- Data Fluency Lead
- Data Enablement Lead
- Communication & Engagement Lead
- Learning & Development Lead
Broader role
Often Data Culture is covered side-of-desk as part of a wider role:
- Chief Data Officer (CDO)
- Chief Data & Analytics Officer (CDAO)
- Head of Data
- Head of Data Governance

Our events
Our first worldwide get-together! Join us from the comfort of your own desk to explore the best ways to motivate & incentivise colleagues to adopt new behaviours or build new skills.
An in-person evening of learning and sharing for our UK members. Guest speakers will help us consider the relationship between Data Culture & Data Governance.
A convivial evening of networking for our UK members. We'll mix everyone up so you can get to know each other and make useful connections across the group.
Our founding members met for the first time in a cosy dining room overlooking the Thames, where we discussed two contrasting topics: the nature of 'culture' (based on some recent CDO research), and the effect of AI on Data Culture.
For our second get-together in a City livery hall, two of our members took the spotlight: Steve helped us think about Data Literacy programs, and Selena led an exercise to understand and improve how we work with People/HR departments.
On a balmy summer's evening in Clerkenwell, we held our third meet-up. Josh & Tiffany talked us through their AI Literacy initiatives, and Carly had us debating the skillsets that are required in a balanced Data Culture team.
Inspired by our location next to Shakespeare’s Globe, for our fourth event we took the theme of Storytelling. A Fireside Chat with guest experts Andy and Susanne sparked a roundtable discussion about how best to approach the practicalities.
To wrap up the year we welcomed members to a charming historic pub for an evening of festive cheer, sparkling conversation and friendly competition - congratulations to the team that won the data-themed mini pub quiz!

It’s not easy being at the forefront of a new discipline, and Data Culture can present a particular challenge for those used to working with data, because it’s all about people. Attitudes and behaviours can feel difficult to influence and measure, and yet they’re vital to the success of any initiative.
It has been incredibly rewarding to bring together individuals working in this space – often in isolation, with limited guidance – and see them realise that they’re not alone.
Thank you to all our members, who have been so generous in sharing their experiences and building a trusted source of advice. I can’t wait to see what we can create together.

Most asked questions
Great question! One of the challenges facing Data Culture professionals is that everyone seems to have a slightly different definition. And then there are 'adjacent' terms like literacy, fluency and enablement...
A culture can be described as “the way things are done around here” – the shared values, attitudes and behaviours that are expressed in everyday activity.
So, for us, a good Data Culture is one where data is a natural part of the way people work:
- everyone understands the meaning and business value of the data
- they have the tools, skills and confidence to use it
- they feel collective responsibility for looking after it
If you're a Data Culture professional who's just between jobs, please do still join. Communities like these are a great way to keep up to speed with the latest developments while you're working out your next career step.
But we do ask that members are able to contribute our discussions. So, for example, if you're a Data Architect who's just interested in finding out more about Data Culture, this probably isn't the right group for you!
It's led by co-chairs Araminta Huitson and Amy Payne, with support from colleagues and other core members of the group.
No! There's no fee to join the club, nor to attend our events.
It's funded and nurtured by the specialist data, AI & technology consultancy Ortecha, who recognise the importance of bringing people together to encourage thought leadership and generate best practice.
Absolutely not! We welcome members from all over the world, and value the different perspectives this can bring.
Most of our in-person events take place in London, but we also hold virtual events so everyone has an opportunity to meet.
We also have a LinkedIn Group to enable members to engage online, whenever it's convenient for them to participate.
It's usually not practical to stream our in-person events or record them, but after every event we post photos on the LinkedIn group and summarise the key ideas and discussions in a blog article so we can continue the conversation with the wider group.
You'll see the latest ones at the bottom of this page - sign up to our newsletter to get the next one delivered straight to your inbox!
We're always looking for members to participate! Whether that's running a roundtable discussion, featuring on a webinar panel or writing a blog - we're always open to ideas.
Get in touch with the team at dcc@ortecha.com to chat!
We'd be sorry to see you go, but we know sometimes a change in role will mean this group is no longer relevant to you.
Simply ask us to remove you from the LinkedIn group and Newsletter mailing list by dropping a line to the team at dcc@ortecha.com.
We're always happy to chat - just send an email to dcc@ortecha.com.
